Use Your Skin-Care Routine as an Anchor for Your Self-Care

Use Your Skin-Care Routine as an Anchor for Your Self-Care

As Mothers, we are often time-poor or better put, we live incredibly rich lives. We juggle a lot of hats, and life can feel noisy, chaotic and messy at times. Self-Care often falls way down on our list of things to do. A simple skin-care routine can serve as a beautiful anchor to remind us to check back in with ourselves and how we’re going at the beginning and end of each day.

When we refer to a skincare routine, it doesn’t have to be elaborate. At a minimum, we would recommend investing in a gentle cleanser and moisturiser. When you’re cleansing or moisturising your skin with our products, use the activity as a prompt to take a few deep breaths, and to ask yourself what you need at that particular moment in time.
Maybe you’re thirsty and need to drink some water.
Maybe you’re cold and need to put on a jumper.

Maybe you’re struggling and need to ask for some help or support.

At the beginning of the day, check in with yourself so you can intentionally go about your day, instead of being reactive to other people’s schedules and needs (and then feeling like you didn’t get to do any of what you wanted to do!)

At the end of the day, it’s good to unwind so that your quality of sleep is not affected by the stresses of the day. Perhaps you rushed through the day not having any time to slow down or pay attention. Perhaps someone said something which upset you, or you spent too much time on social media, or are replaying your ever-growing ‘to do’ list in your head.

On days where you can schedule more time out for yourself, we encourage you to apply a face mask. Making time to apply a face mask is a great way to look after yourself and gives you a great emotional boost. Our Collagen Honey mask will soften and hydrate your skin often with just one use, and the mild lavender scent is heavenly and perfect for your bedtime routine.

Melvory self care

Elaine, our founder, is known to get her face mask done at least 3 times a week.

She’ll often have her face mask already on while she bathes her older girls (sitting on a chair with some music!) or during the day where she’ll put the baby in the bouncer outside her shower screen (so she can keep an eye on bubba whilst applying a mask and taking a shower).

Like many things in life, do what works for you and your life.

But make sure you don’t let it slide: schedule in regular times in care for and look after yourself. Intentional self care helps you to show up as the best version of yourself.
