If you’ve ever browsed the skincare aisles or scrolled through beauty blogs, you will likely have seen the term Hyaluronic Acid (HA) floating around!
It’s often referred to as a “Hydration Hero.”
Melvory is currently launching our brand new serum range (yes you’re the first to read it here!), and our first serum features this superstar ingredient.
In this article, we'll fill you in on what Hyaluronic Acid is, whether you really need it, and why everyone is so obsessed.
By the end of this piece, you’ll walk away with all the information you need to decide whether this serum is for you - no Science degree required, we promise!
Hyaluronic Acid: What it is
Hyaluronic Acid is a gentle, skin-loving sugar molecule that’s naturally found in your body. It’s found in our joints, our eyes, but mostly in our skin.
Its superpower is in retaining moisture (hence why it's commonly referred to as our Hydration Hero!)
Just 1 gram of Hyaluronic Acid can hold up to 6 litres of water.
Hyaluronic Acid is the best weaponry in your skincare toolkit for addressing dehydrated skin. Think of it as a tall drink of water for your thirsty skin.
Why Your Skin Loves Hyaluronic Acid
You may be wondering ... if Hyaluronic Acid is naturally found in the body, why do we need more of it?
Unfortunately, Hyaluronic Acid production slows down as we age and the existing Hyaluronic acid in our skin also starts to break down.
As our skin starts to lose the primary molecule responsible for water retention, it loses its moisture, which can lead to dryness as a result of the ageing process. It may also accentuate our wrinkles, and other premature signs of ageing.
That’s where topical Hyaluronic Acid serums comes in to assist.
It helps to replenish what’s lost and to restore a plump, healthy and hydrated glow to your skin.
In short, Melvory's Hyaluronic Acid serum helps to:
✔️ Provide Deep Hydration : Hyaluronic acid draws moisture into the skin, keeping it plump and supple.
✔️ Smooth Fine Lines : Dehydrated skin tends to show fine lines, whereas hydrated skin is plump, dewy and fresh.
✔️ Strengthen the Skin Barrier : Hyaluronic Acid supports your skin’s natural defence system, maintaining its resilience.

Who Would Benefit from the Use of a Hyaluronic Acid Serum?
People of all skin types will benefit from the use of a Hyaluronic Acid serum.
This is because Hyaluronic Acid helps with skin hydration and maintaining water content. Even oily or acne-prone skin can benefit from hydration. Just like most people will benefit from drinking more water!
Those who are approaching their late thirties or older, will particularly benefit from the use of a Hyaluronic Acid Serum, as it helps to balance the loss of Hyaluronic Acid production which occurs as we age.
Those with dehydrated skin will also particularly benefit from the use of our Hyaluronic Acid Serum.
You may wish to try the Serum if you have rough, flaky or textured skin, or your skin often feels tight and uncomfortable. Our Hyaluronic Acid Serum may well be the solution for your dehydrated skin.
Hyaluronic Acid Myths vs. Facts: Clearing the Confusion
As with many advances in the skincare world, it can be difficult to distinguish between myths and facts!
We’re here to myth-bust the most common myths we hear about Hyaluronic Acid:
Myth #1: Hyaluronic Acid exfoliates the skin.
Fact: Hyaluronic Acid is not an exfoliating acid like AHAs or BHAs. It's not a peel; it hydrates.
Myth #2: Only dry skin types benefit from the use of Hyaluronic Acid.
Fact: Every skin type benefits from hydration. Even oily skin can be dehydrated!
Myth #3: Hyaluronic Acid is enough to be used on its own.
Fact: Hyaluronic Acid pulls moisture from the environment or deeper skin layers. For best results, you should seal the serum with a moisturiser to lock in the hydration.
How to Apply Melvory’s Hyaluronic Acid Serum Like a Pro
1. We recommend that you prep your skin with a toner before applying your Hyaluronic Acid serum because hyaluronic acid performs best on moist skin.
2. Apply the Hyaluronic Acid serum to damp (not dry!) skin after cleansing
3. Hyaluronic Acid pairs well with many other common active ingredients. For example, you can use it with our Blueberry Vitamin C serum. The general rule is to apply your serums and products from thinnest to the thickest.
4. Follow immediately with a moisturiser to trap in all the goodness.
5. Use morning and night for best results.
