NOHUNGRYCHILDREN.ORG - WHO ARE THEY?
WHY FEED THE CHILDREN?
Instead of going to school and getting an education without getting fed, children wander the streets in the slums of Nairobi looking for food or trying to get (or steal) money to buy food.
No Hungry Children desires to help break the cycle of poverty by removing the “hunger obstacle” that keeps so many kids from going to school and receiving an education.
When we feed students every day at school, they know that they are cared for and loved. This security opens doors for them to receive education, which is the best way to fight poverty.
HOW IS THE FOOD DISTRIBUTED?
To feed over 5,500 students every school day takes hard work and dedication from groups of volunteers on the ground in Kenya, along with the teachers and staff at the schools.
Each month multiple bags of rice, beans, vegetables, oils and spices are bought at the market in downtown Nairobi. These products, weighing hundreds of pounds, must then be loaded into several trucks and hauled to a storage facility for weighing and sorting. Once the raw food is divided into appropriate amounts for each school, our volunteers deliver the inventory to be stored on site at each campus for cooks to later make fresh food for their students.
CAN WE REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
Oh, absolutely yes! Feeding starving children is not just a moral imperative, but also a crucial investment in our collective future. Children who suffer from hunger and malnutrition face severe physical, cognitive, and emotional consequences that can last a lifetime.
Proper nutrition is essential for their growth, development, and overall well-being. By providing food to starving children, we can prevent unnecessary suffering and help break the cycle of poverty.
We can make a difference by supporting reputable organizations like No Hungry Children that provide food aid, advocating for policies that address the root causes of hunger, and raising awareness about the urgent need to end childhood hunger.
Together, you and I can contribute to building a world where no child goes to bed hungry and every child has the opportunity to thrive.
