International Women's Day: Celebrating Mama Power!

Happy International Women's Day! This is Clare, one of Melvory's admin and today, we have the privilege of speaking with Elaine, our CEO, founder of Melvory and a wonderful mother who is going to share her thoughts and experiences with us.

So, first of all, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your family?

Elaine: Of course! My name is Elaine, and I am the proud mother of two girls (ages 9 and 6) and a 2 year-old boy. Being a mother is the most rewarding and challenging experience of my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

So, as a mother of young children, you know better than anyone the ups and downs of this incredible journey. What do you think are the biggest challenges of motherhood?

Elaine: Definitely the never-ending quest for balance. Trying to balance a career, family, friends, self-care, and a million other responsibilities is like trying to keep all the plates spinning on those fancy circus performers, only with more sippy cups and tantrums. But the truth is, balance is a myth. We don't have to have everything perfectly balanced all the time. In fact, it's impossible! So, I try to give myself a break and embrace the chaos. A messy house and a cluttered schedule are signs of a life well-lived.

What is an important aspect for you, as a Mother?

Humour is so important, it's what helps me get through the day! Motherhood can be tough, but laughter is the best medicine. I try to embrace the funnier side of things, like the days when I used to have time for a shower and a cup of coffee without interruption, or the days when I could go to the bathroom in peace. Ha! Good times. And don't even get me started on the joys of potty training. It's like training for a marathon, but with more poop and less glory.

"Motherhood can be tough, but laughter is the best medicine."

That's so true! So, let's talk about self-care. As mothers, we often put ourselves last on the list. Why is self-care so important for mothers?

Self-care is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Taking care of ourselves is essential for our well-being and our ability to take care of our families. I try to make time for activities that bring me joy and help me recharge, whether it's a bubble bath, a girls' night out, or simply a quiet moment with a good book.

Let's dive into some questions about International Women's Day. In your opinion, what are some of the biggest challenges facing women today?

I think one of the biggest challenges facing women today is the persistent gender pay gap and lack of representation in leadership positions. Women are still paid less than men for doing the same job, and we need to continue to work towards closing that gap. Additionally, women are underrepresented in high-level decision-making roles, which means we don't always have a voice in the decisions that impact our lives.

That's a great point. And speaking of empowering women, how do you think women can empower each other and support one another in the workplace and in their personal lives?

I think one of the most important things women can do is lift each other up, rather than tear each other down. We need to support one another and be allies, rather than compete with one another. Whether it's promoting each other's businesses, encouraging each other to apply for promotions, or simply being there for a shoulder to cry on, supporting one another is key.

That's great advice. And what advice would you give to young girls and women who are just starting out in their careers?

Mama: My advice would be to never give up, and to always believe in yourself. It can be tough to navigate the workplace as a woman, but with determination, hard work, and a little bit of grace, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. And don't be afraid to ask for help or support when you need it. The women who came before us have paved the way, and it's our turn to continue to break down barriers and create opportunities for future generations.

Okay, now let's talk about your business. What is your absolute favourite Melvory product?

Oh that is a tough call, I would have to say one of my all time favourite products would have to be our Blueberry Vitamin C Serum because it is so nourishing and rejuvenating for my skin. It keeps me looking fresh and improves the appearance of my skin, it also helps with signs of ageing.

So tell me what Melvory products are most popular at the moment?

Well, at the moment our new Dragon Fruit Face Scrub is very popular, it is a 3-in-1 Face scrub, Fruit enzyme peel and cleanser. We released it on Monday evening and had sold out before the end of the week and it is still selling very well.

Our Hemp Seed Butter is always popular to help people with problematic skin.

And one of our skincare sets that has become very popular lately is the Complete Baby Skincare Pack. I must admit this one is great value and a lovely gift idea!

And finally, what do you hope to see for women in the future, in terms of equal opportunities, and representation in leadership positions?

I hope to see a world where women are truly equal to men, with equal pay for equal work and equal representation in leadership positions. I want to see a world where girls can dream big and know that they can achieve anything they set their minds to, without being held back by their gender. And I hope to see a world where mothers are valued and supported in their careers, and where family and work can truly be balanced.
