Behind The Scenes

Behind The Scenes

We are going to explain to you some of the very important processes that take place here at Melvory HQ, from where we formulate the products to labelling them. Because not all Skincare products are created equal.

Here’s a run down of exactly what we mean when we say "Professionally Developed by A Pharmacist" and why it’s something that should be important when you are choosing skincare.

1. Safe & Effective Formulation
Checked against scientific databases (not google, youtube or pinterest) for clinical evidence of efficacy by someone with an in-depth knowledge of how different ingredients react with each other and to the skin.

2. Good Manufacturing Practice
Producing and packaging your skincare in a dedicated sterile room, with appropriate attire, and clinical grade tools and equipment to ensure no contamination occurs. We use scales that weigh accurately so that quantities are uniform and equipment that can be sterilized properly.

We adhere closely to GMPC ISO 22716:2007, the international standard for the good manufacturing practices (GMP) for cosmetics. The standard focuses on the production, control, storage and shipment of cosmetic products.

3. Comprehensive Sterilization Process
All our stainless steel and glass equipment are sterilized 4 times before we begin production to once again ensure a contaminant-free process.

4. Organic Standards
Ensuring that our ingredients are compliant with Australian Organic Certifications. This includes any natural preservatives we use. We do not use any synthetic preservatives or toxic artificial fragrances in our products.

Understanding Natural Perservatives

For a product that contains water, it is easy for bacteria and mould to grow. Therefore, the product must absolutely contain a perservative. Natural preservatives that are allowed to use in order to pass the ACO (Australian Certified Organic) certification process, is extremely limited.

There are only a few preservatives that are allowed to be used and still be ACO certified. The ones you will find in Melvory products are:

(i) Potassium Sorbate
It is mainly used as a food preservative, but it can also be used in organic skincare products. Sorbic acid inhibits moulds, fungus and some bacteria. It is mild, non-toxic and non-sensitising.

(ii) Sambucus Nigra Fruit Extract
Natural antimicrobial derived from Elderberry. Inhibits Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterias, fungi, molds and yeasts. Also offers mild anti-inflammatory properties to cosmetic products.

(iii) Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate
Natural antimicrobial peptide originally derived from lactic acid bacteria. Restricts the growth of micro-organisms. Also increases the moisturisation rate of cream formulations.

5. Laboratory Testing
Our products are sent for independent microbes & heavy metals testing. And of course, they all come back negative 😊

6. Labelling
All our product labels comply with the mandatory standard for ingredient labelling of cosmetics as per ACCC.

We adhere to these 6 points strictly and without exception which ensure that all our skincare is produced with utmost hygiene, precision and perfection. Improper handling and hygiene can and does lead to contamination of ingredients which renders them ineffective, and may even be harmful when applied resulting in bacterial infections.

When you buy Melvory products, you can be assured that everything from start to finish is done professionally.
