Tips to Tackle Common Eye Care Issues

How to Look After The Delicate Eye Area (Simple Tips to Tackle Common Eye Care Issues)

Is Eye Cream Really Necessary?

Eyes are the focal point to your face!

The areas around your eyes are particularly susceptible to age-related changes including sagging, thinning and wrinkling, and thus deserve a little extra love and care!

The eye area, both the lid and the under eye, is extremely delicate.

The skin around your eyes is 10 times thinner than other areas of the face! It is further thinned as we age due to loss of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

This makes it particularly vulnerable to damage and age-related changes.

Whilst specialised care (using products formulated specifically for the eye area) is recommended, looking after your eye area does not have to be complex or time-consuming.

We have summarised and collated our top 5 tips for taking care of the skin around your eyes.

They’re simple to learn and easy to implement.

1. Apply Eye Care Products Gently

The best products in the world cannot effectively do their job, if you are not using them correctly!

When applying eye creams and serums, always use your ring finger.

This helps to ensure you’re using the least amount of pressure and the lightest of touches.

Tap the cream on in an outward motion away from the nose.

Don’t forget the corner of your eyes!

2. Sun Protection is a Must

Sun exposure may lead to premature ageing, cause the skin under your eyes to become darker, and may also contribute to Milia.

Sun protection, including around the eye area, is therefore an absolute must!

A light-weight sunscreen should be applied every day.

Our mineral Tinted BB Cream has SPF 30 and is suitable for use around the eye area.

It gives a lovely sheer to medium coverage and is a 4-in-1 super product. It is a moisturiser, serum, skin-tint and sunscreen all in one!

We love it for busy mornings, where in our mad-dash to the door it is all too easy to forget to apply our sunscreen.

3. Remove Eye MakeUp Before Bedtime

Did you know that leaving your eye makeup on overnight can lead to eye irritations and infections?

Styes may also form from mascara clogging glands to your eyelashes.

Therefore, removing your eye makeup before bed is very important! Even if you are very tired and removing your makeup is the last thing you want to do.

Our preference is to choose a zero-chemical, 100% natural oil cleanser to remove eye make-up.

Melvory’s Peach Oil Cleanser is a great choice, and is effective even for heavy eye makeup such as ultra-black eye liners!

Put 2 pumps in your hands and gently rub over eyes and skin (apply to dry, not damp skin).

Your make-up, sunscreen and grime will melt away within seconds.

Next, use a foaming cleanser such as our Green Tea Cleanser to wash away all residue.

4. Exfoliate Gently

Gentle exfoliation can help to clear build-ups which can lead to fine lines, wrinkles and tiny bumps.

This is particularly relevant if you wear lots of eye make-up, including under-eye concealers and foundation across your eyelids.

We recommend using a natural Konjac Sponge to exfoliate the skin around your eyes, twice a week.

Konjac sponges are super soft and gentle on the skin.

5. Using Effective Eye Creams and Eye Serums

When choosing an eye cream, choose one that offers excellent barrier repair. This ensures that the skin can stay hydrated, keeping premature wrinkles at bay.

It is also easy to get milia around this area if your eye product is too heavy.

A lightweight cream or non-clogging oil serum is therefore recommended.

Nutrients to Nourish the Skin Around Your Eyes

Goji Berry and Ginseng are powerhouse ingredients which can help to nourish the delicate skin around your eyes.

Goji Berry is a tiny fruit that’s packed with antioxidants, vitamins and amino acids. It contains high levels of Vitamin C which can help to brighten the skin and reduce the appearance of dark circles.

Goji berries are also packed with beta-carotene, which promotes healthy skin cell turnover and reduces inflammation. Its hydration-boosting properties also helps to maintain the skin’s moisture balance, leaving your under-eye area feeling refreshed and revitalised.

Ginseng is a valuable ingredient for maintaining a youthful look around your eyes. It is known for its abilities to enhance blood circulation and skin cell regeneration. The skin around your eyes can sometimes show signs of fatigue and aging. Ginseng can help to counteract this by boosting blood flow, thus reducing puffiness.

Ginsenosides, the active compound in Ginseng, has anti-aging benefits. It can help to smooth fine lines by promoting collagen production.

When the Powers are Combined …

Your under-eye skin will receive a nourishing and rejuvenating treat when these two super ingredients are used in combination!

Their natural properties work together to combat signs of aging, reduce puffiness, and enhance the health of the delicate skin around your eyes.
